SOC 2
Compliance
Independent Assurance for SaaS and Cloud Providers
The recognized benchmark for demonstrating security, operational integrity, and confidentiality of enterprise customer data.
A SOC 2 report provides formal assurance directly to enterprise clients that technical, operational, and organizational safeguards are active and independently verified.
What is SOC 2?
SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2) is an attestation standard developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). It establishes specific criteria for evaluating how securely service providers manage cloud environments, infrastructure, and client data.
The framework evaluates systems against five Trust Services Criteria: Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy. A SOC 2 examination verifies whether internal controls prevent unauthorized disclosure, maintain uptime commitments, and protect sensitive assets.

Type I Report
Evaluates the design of controls at a specific point in time.
Type II Report
Evaluates the operational effectiveness of controls over a period (usually 3 to 12 months).
Independent Audit
Conducted by a licensed CPA firm to ensure objective attestation.
Enterprise Trust
The primary report requested by US buyers to clear procurement.
The 5 Trust Services Criteria
Security
Protection against unauthorized access, unauthorized disclosure, and damage to systems. Required for all SOC 2 reports.
Availability
Accessibility of systems, applications, and customer data as stipulated in service level commitments and agreements.
Processing Integrity
Ensuring that system transactions and automated data processing are complete, valid, accurate, timely, and authorized.
Confidentiality
Protection of proprietary business information, source code, and confidential client assets from unauthorized exposure.
Privacy
Collection, use, retention, disclosure, and disposal of personal information in conformity with organizational commitments.
Continuous Assurance
Automated evidence pipelines replacing annual manual panic.
Regional requirements
United States
AICPA standard, the most requested assurance report by US customers. SOC 2 reports are issued only by licensed CPA firms.
European Union & United Kingdom
Often requested by US-headquartered customers, frequently alongside ISO 27001. Issued only by licensed CPA firms.
Israel
For Israeli SaaS and tech vendors, SOC 2 is standard commercial table stakes when selling to enterprise customers. While SOC 2 is an American attestation standard and does not satisfy domestic Israeli Privacy Law or Amendment 13 mandates, technical controls implemented for SOC 2 can be harmonized with domestic compliance. VULNSEE prepares your team for the audit and works alongside the CPA firm; we do not issue the report.
How a SOC 2 Project Runs
Our structured path takes your organization from initial scoping through final CPA attestation.
Scoping & Criteria Selection
Identify production systems, data flows, and infrastructure boundaries. Select applicable Trust Services Criteria aligned with customer commitments.
Gap Analysis & Remediation Plan
Evaluate current operational practices against AICPA control criteria, identify technical and policy deficits, and establish prioritized remediation tasks.
Control Buildout & Evidence Workflows
Deploy required controls, implement automated evidence collection across cloud and identity providers, configure endpoint protections, and finalize policies.
Readiness Assessment & Audit Dry Run
Conduct an end-to-end simulation of the CPA audit, test evidence samples, challenge technical documentation, and ensure all control owners are fully prepared.
Independent CPA Examination
Work alongside the licensed CPA firm through evidence examination. For Type I, testing occurs at a point in time; for Type II, controls are verified across the monitoring window.
Readiness Timelines
Initial readiness typically requires 2 to 3 months. Type I issuance occurs immediately afterward, while Type II observation typically spans 3 to 6 months.
Why SOC 2 Matters
For software vendors and cloud businesses, SOC 2 compliance is a commercial requirement for selling into enterprise organizations. Enterprise procurement teams will not authorize software access without independent assurance.
It accelerates enterprise sales by replacing lengthy custom questionnaires with a standardized attestation accepted by corporate risk officers worldwide.
Achieving SOC 2 compliance identifies technical vulnerabilities, establishes reproducible deployment controls, and builds operational discipline across your team.
Shorten Sales Cycles
Provide instant, accredited security validation to corporate buyers.
Market Advantage
Win deals over competing vendors who lack third-party audit reports.
Operational Consistency
Establish structured change management and access controls across engineering.
Risk Reduction
Identify and resolve infrastructure misconfigurations before external exploitation.
Where SOC 2 Encounters Friction
Technology organizations often face setbacks when preparing for SOC 2. In many instances, teams purchase compliance automation tools assuming the software alone delivers readiness.
- Over-scoping systems to include non-critical development test beds or marketing sites.
- Using boilerplate policy templates that do not reflect actual engineering pull request rules.
- Failing to capture historical change approvals and access review logs during the observation period.
- Overlooking third-party subprocessor due diligence and mandatory supplier security terms.
